about

Siyavakeshela Vol.1: Cincinnati features 19 tracks by a motley cast of Cincinnati artists including minimal synth-punk pioneer John Bender, ex-Wasteland Jazz Unit noise rock project Slow Crime, Why? percussionist Josiah Wolf's collaboration with Israeli-born composer Ofir Klemperer and post-punk upstarts Amanda's Scanner. Music on this compilation moves from dissonant noise to eliding ambient tracks highlighting the diverse output from Cincinnati's august experimental music scene.

Siyavakeshela, translated from Siswati, means "we are visitors". A reminder that we are visitors on this planet. Nothing is for certain. Nothing is guaranteed.

100 % of the profits from the sale of this compilation will go towards the sustaining and maintenance of the Malindza Refugee Reception Center Library in Swaziland, Africa. The library, which was renovated by the Malindza Camp Refugees and Peace Corps Volunteer and label owner Ryan Hall, now holds over 1,500 books, a computer with a word processor and lighting to allow students to study after school hours.

While primarily a digital label to keep the overhead low, Heligator has produced 50 CD-R objects that include 2 high quality photo prints from the Malindza Refugee Camp with liner notes and track listings.
